Man caught by WA police rolling a joint behind the wheel

An unmarked Western Australia police motorcyclist has captured helmet cam footage of a motorist rolling a joint behind the wheel.

The footage shows the officer pulling up beside the stopped vehicle about 4:30am Tuesday on the Great Eastern Highway Redcliff and looking in the open driver’s side window to see the motorist rolling what appeared to the officer to be a marijuana joint.

Video not supported.

Western Police Media posted a tongue-in-cheek tweet to their timeline with the text, “Top tip – Do not roll a joint when the @WAPoliceTraffic bike is next to you. #Distracteddrivingtoawholenewlevel”.

The 20-year-old male driver from Wanneroo has been charged with possessing cannabis, and his passenger, a 22-year-old North Beach man, was charged with cannabis possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both will appear in court. Is “stupidity” a recognised charge?
